Merkel to ask UK to house MORE migrants

The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees in Berlin (BAMF) said that the loved ones of refugees left behind will be entitled to claim for sanctuary.

Officials are projecting that it will average out to one family member per person already in Germany.

Ukip has said the move would have a “profoundly negative effect” on Britain should a similar policy take place here.

According to government arrival statistics, around 428,000 Syrians came to Germany in 2015; in the first five months of this year, there were less than 72,000.

They base the figure of 500,000 potential new arrivals on these numbers.

In recent months there have been forecasts predicted a tripling or quadrupling of refugees through family member arrivals, but BAMF says this will not be the case.

Nevertheless, the prospect of a further half-a-million refugees landing in a country where the social fabric is already stretched thin and many voters have been driven into the arms of the far right is more ammunition for those opposed to Chancellor Angela Merkel's open-door policy towards migrants.

Just how much more a new wave of war refugees will cost the taxpayer, who bears the costs of absorbing refugees, has not been stated.

But the backlog in processing applications for family members is huge and could take many more months to clear.

Ukip MEP Jane Collins said if the same family asylum policy were to be approved in the UK "there would be a profoundly negative effect on the UK's public services and community cohesion."

"It might be okay for politicians, with tax payer funded second homes, chauffeur driven cars and private medical insurance to deal with the 'bearable burden' but for people in the UK who can't get registered with a GP or can't get their child into a decent school it is not only a burden it is unacceptable.

"We know immigration is the top issue for people in this country and that is why David Cameron has tried to avoid talking about it ahead of the referendum.

"He even admitted last night that the Remain side have made no forecasts for migration yet they've managed to make forecasts for everything else.

"In fact if you believed Cameron and Osborne, should we vote to Leave the only jobs left would be for the four horsemen of the Apocalypse."
